When people search online for the “fastest switchgear manufacturer in the USA,” they’re often directed to legacy brands that haven’t changed their pace or practices in decades. But the real game-changer in this space isn’t a household name—yet. It’s Spike Electric Controls, a company revolutionizing the electrical manufacturing industry with unmatched turnaround times, cutting-edge innovation, and a deep commitment to quality.
In 2024, our efforts were recognized on a global stage. ABB, a world leader in electrification and automation, presented Spike Electric Controls with its exclusive eOEM Summit Award for Excellence in Collaboration & Speed in Innovations. This wasn’t just a generic accolade—it’s the only award of its kind ABB has ever given to a switchgear manufacturer anywhere in the world.
The ABB eOEM Award: Proof in the Performance
The award presented by ABB at their prestigious eOEM Summit recognizes only those companies that achieve extraordinary outcomes in engineering, delivery, and innovation.
Award Inscription: “Excellence in Collaboration & Speed in Innovations”

What Makes Spike Electric the Fastest?
Speed in switchgear isn’t about rushing. It’s about engineering precision, strategic planning, and removing friction from every layer of the process. Here’s how we do it:
1. Vertically Integrated Production
We own the entire process—from design and engineering to fabrication, testing, and field commissioning. That vertical integration allows us to deliver solutions that are faster, more accurate, and more reliable than our competitors.
Because we don’t rely on outside vendors or third-party contractors, we maintain complete control over every detail of the build. This enables us to:
-
- Eliminate delays due to external dependencies
- Move quickly from concept to production with full engineering support
- Maintain tight quality control throughout the lifecycle of the product
- Quickly adapt to changes in project scope or delivery requirements
Our factory and field teams work in lockstep, sharing real-time updates to ensure equipment is designed, built, and installed with unmatched speed and precision.
2. Real-Time Engineering Support
Need to make a spec change mid-project? Our in-house engineers don’t just sit in a silo—they’re embedded in the process from start to finish. When something changes on the job site or in the field, they respond immediately.
Whether it’s adjusting protection relay settings, reworking a panel layout, or revising a wiring diagram to match unforeseen site conditions, our engineers are:
-
- Hands-on, agile, and deeply experienced
- Fluent in both AutoCAD and field implementation constraints
- Equipped to communicate directly with our shop and field teams for seamless updates
This level of responsiveness isn’t common in our industry—but it’s standard practice at Spike. It’s how we keep projects moving forward while others are still chasing approvals.
3. Advanced Engineering & Digital Workflow Tools
We leverage advanced design automation tools and streamlined digital workflows to cut weeks off our lead times without compromising quality. Our approach focuses on eliminating bottlenecks, enhancing collaboration between engineering and production, and increasing accuracy in every step of the process.
Our system integrates seamlessly with our field capabilities, especially in mission-critical services like protection relay coordination and switchgear retrofit and upgrade solutions. From early-stage schematics to production-ready layouts, our digital tools empower rapid customization and delivery for even the most complex jobs.
4. 24/7 Emergency Build Capabilities
Spike Electric runs a dedicated emergency response team that operates 24/7. When every minute counts, we’re not waiting for Monday to come around—we’re already building. But our capabilities go far beyond the production floor.
Our Field Services Division supports emergency deployments and field start-ups at any time, day or night. Whether you need a technician on-site for last-minute commissioning, a protection relay reprogrammed under time pressure, or a retrofit panel installed on a holiday weekend—we deliver.
From protection relay testing and commissioning to switchgear retrofit and upgrade solutions, site acceptance testing, and breaker scheme verification, our field crews arrive equipped with:
-
- Factory-trained expertise
- NETA-based testing standards
- Full engineering support
- Real-time communication with our shop and design team
We’re not just building switchgear—we’re deploying fully tested systems in real-world conditions under the tightest deadlines imaginable. That’s what 24/7 truly means at Spike Electric.
5. UL, ISO, ANSI, IEEE Certified
Speed is nothing without safety and compliance. Every product that leaves our facility meets the most stringent global standards because we build on a foundation of technical rigor and documented quality processes.
Spike Electric Controls is proudly certified to UL (Underwriters Laboratories), ISO 9001, ANSI, and IEEE standards—ensuring that every system we manufacture, whether custom or standard, complies with internationally recognized benchmarks for safety, performance, and reliability.
Our internal processes are continuously audited and improved. From raw material intake to final test and inspection, we document, validate, and verify every step. Whether it’s:
-
- UL NRTL compliance
- ISO 9001 quality management
- ANSI C37 and IEEE switchgear design and testing protocols
—we don’t just meet the requirements; we embed them in our culture.
These certifications aren’t just logos on a brochure. They mean fewer failures, safer installations, longer service life, and reduced risk to our customers and end-users. They also mean your emergency build is not just fast—it’s certified safe, robust, and ready to perform.
Real Innovation: Customization Without Compromise
Let me give you a real example—straight from the floor at Spike. We recently became the first company in history to manufacture four 15kV outdoor-rated, four-section 1200AMP Metal Clad Switchgear lineups. From approval drawings to delivery of fully NRTL-listed gear on-site, we completed the job in six weeks flat from the date the PO was issued.
This was for a major project in Beaumont, where the customer was facing a serious timeline bind. And that wasn’t all—we also built and delivered 63kA arc-resistant switchgear using ABB 15kV Advac Gen circuit breakers in record timing. Like the Beaumont build, this project demanded an aggressive schedule and absolute precision. The customer was in a bind and needed the fastest solution available to beat their timeline—and we didn’t just meet expectations, we exceeded them. We were early, hitting all milestones while every other U.S. manufacturer was either delayed or declined the project altogether.
What’s more, every milestone was hit, even when other U.S. manufacturers couldn’t deliver. It’s a reflection of our company’s unique DNA. As a privately held organization, we’re not bogged down by red tape or shareholders. Our entire culture is focused on ownership, accountability, and pride in doing what others can’t.
We didn’t just celebrate internally—we backed it up with action. We did profit sharing with the 55 employees who directly contributed to those projects. Out of our 200-person team, we carved out a dedicated share for those who put in the time, stepped up, and made it happen.
That’s who we are at Spike. We move fast, we perform under pressure, and we take care of our people. And that’s exactly why we’re redefining what it means to be a manufacturer in this industry.
Most manufacturers shy away from custom switchgear—they simply don’t have the flexibility or talent to handle it efficiently. We built our reputation on solving exactly those challenges.
From unusual footprints and legacy system retrofits to harsh-environment panel builds and tailored metering solutions, Spike Electric is the go-to partner for:
-
- Industrial plants with urgent upgrade needs
- OEMs looking for flexible, repeatable builds
- Distributors who need a fast, reliable source that won’t miss deadlines
Why You Haven’t Heard of Us—Yet
We’ve been busy building—not boasting. But with the recognition from ABB and a growing base of clients who can’t afford to wait 12–18 weeks for mission-critical equipment, our visibility is changing fast.
We’re faster than the industry giants. We’re more agile than the bureaucracy-bound players. And now we’re stepping up to claim our place in the conversation.
Let’s Build Faster, Smarter, Better
If you’re an electrical distributor, industrial buyer, engineer, or facility manager and you’re tired of delays, unresponsive vendors, and excuses—Spike Electric Controls is your solution.
We don’t just build switchgear. We build trust, speed, and innovation into every product that leaves our facility.
