Master Break Load Interrupter Switch

Available as a standard switch (2.4–15 kV, up to 600 A) or with the VD4 Evolution vacuum circuit breaker (200–800 A, 42 circuits)

Spike Electric’s Master Break Medium Voltage Load Interrupter Switchgear is at the forefront of electrical technology, designed for exceptional safety and motor control efficiency. This innovative switchgear solution is meticulously engineered to meet the most stringent industry standards, ensuring consistent performance and robust protection across a wide range of industrial settings.

The Master Break Load Interrupter Switchgear by Spike Electric Controls is an ANSI-certified switch ideal for handling medium voltage circuits ranging from 2.4 kV to 15 kV. It is capable of managing up to 600 amperes, making it versatile for various applications, including connecting or disconnecting transformers. Its flexible design supports different distribution needs such as single-circuit transformer control, duplex switching, and selector switch applications. This versatility makes it popular across multiple industries, including oil and gas, pulp and paper, automotive, industrial processes, wastewater treatment, petrochemical, and utilities. Spike Electric Controls Master Break LIS provides reduced Arc Flash incident energy levels for customers on their existing MV equipment. Operating in three cycles, the fast-acting SecoVac VCB adds an Arc Flash mitigating solution designed in response to Arc Flash Safety Standards.

Need Help Selecting the Right Load Interrupter Switch?

Spike engineers can help define the voltage class, current rating, protection method, enclosure, lineup arrangement, and qualification path for your project.

Configurations

  • ANSI-certified, 2.4 kV – 15 kV, up to 600 A
  • Applications: transformer connect/disconnect, single-circuit transformer control, duplex switching, selector switch arrangements

VD4 Evo Breaker for Quality Protection

VD4 Evo circuit breaker is a three-phase AC indoor breaker with 17.5 kV rated voltage. It is used for control and protection of electrical equipment in industrial and mineral enterprises, power plants, and substations. Durable and reliable, the VD4 Evo breaker is especially suited for conditions that require frequent operation.

The VD4 Evo series MV embedded-pole vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) uses Automatic Pressure Gelatin (APG) technology to embed the vacuum interrupter and connection terminals within epoxy resin, simplifying pole assembly, improving assembly accuracy, and improving environmental resistance (dust, humidity, vermin, pollution, high altitude).

This solution includes a fixed-mount VD4 Evo vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) in the fused compartment of the LIS. Operating in three cycles, the fast-acting VCB adds an Arc Flash mitigating solution designed in response to Arc Flash Safety Standards.

Breaker Mechanism

All the mechanical parts of the mechanism are integrated into opening and closing modules individually. The closing and opening modules are universal to the entire series of VB2 Plus embedded-pole vacuum circuit breakers, reducing the likelihood of mechanical readjustment and lowering operation and maintenance costs.

Differential Relay Options

The Master Break LIS includes all major components: the Load Interrupter Switch, VD4 Evo vacuum circuit breaker, and the choice of a SEL-751 feeder protection relay or other specified relay.
