Control Rooms & Operator Shelters

Pre-Fabricated, Factory-Tested Buildings for Equipment and Personnel.

Spike Electric designs, builds, and delivers custom pre-fabricated buildings that protect electrical equipment and the people who operate it. Constructed as robust, single-unit welded steel or aluminum structures, they are fully factory-assembled and tested, engineered to withstand challenging weather and environmental conditions, and delivered ready for operation — you simply set them on a minimal foundation and connect power.

Two configurations cover most needs: equipment-focused Control Center Rooms (BPCRs) and personnel-focused Operator/Personnel Shelters.

Configurations

Select a configuration for its purpose, applications, and options. Both are built and tested to the shared standards and construction practices below.

A Building Power Control Room (BPCR) houses and integrates electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in one pre-assembled, factory-tested structure — ideal for power generation and distribution control at sites with on-site limitations or remote locations.

  • Purpose: House and integrate electrical, instrumentation, and control systems; power generation / distribution control rooms
  • Integration: Pre-assembled and tested with all electrical, instrumentation, and control systems interconnected and verified before shipment
  • Construction: Requires only a simple foundation (piers or curbs); metal or copper ground system per spec, grounded before shipping; adapts to overhead or underground conduit; built single-source under controlled factory conditions
  • Delivery: Arrives fully tested and ready for operation, including customer-furnished equipment, on the agreed schedule
  • Standards: IEEE, NEMA, and NEC; engineered to NEC and Commercial & Industrial Buildings (Category QRNZ)
  • Advantage: Weatherproof, shelter-form structure that carries the same tax designation as the equipment

A robust, factory-assembled shelter that protects personnel and sensitive equipment on-site, and keeps operators comfortable and safe in demanding industrial environments.

  • Purpose: Protect personnel and critical/sensitive equipment across manufacturing and industrial sites
  • Construction: Single-unit welded steel or aluminum; fully factory assembled and tested; operates in challenging weather and temperature conditions
  • Applications: Bulk-material racks; rail/car/truck loading areas; industrial control cabs and pulpits; “cool-down” shelters; warehouse loading docks; security and visitor guard houses
  • Optional features: Break-resistant plastic-glazed windows, sloped windows, soundproofing, explosion-proof devices (client provides class/division), additional outlets, data and phone preps, HVAC enclosures, and galvanized-steel elevated platforms/stands/towers
  • Standards: NEMA and NEC
  • On delivery: Doors, windows, electrical equipment, and HVAC pre-installed at the factory — plug into the electric supply and it's ready for operation

Construction & Standards

  • Robust single-unit welded steel or aluminum construction
  • Fully factory-assembled and functionally tested before shipment
  • Minimal site foundation (piers or curbs); grounded before shipping
  • Adapts to overhead or underground conduit systems
  • Engineered to withstand challenging weather and environmental conditions
  • Compliant with applicable IEEE, NEMA, and NEC standards

Custom-Engineered, Single-Source
