From a Sticky Note to a Smart Factory
Spike Electric Controls began in 2013 in a small boat storage unit in Dickinson, Texas, with a $75 desk, a phone, and a conviction that business should be built with integrity, excellence, and faith. Founder Allen Cole Attaway brought years of experience in the electrical industry and the belief that a successful company should be built on integrity, excellence, faith, and hard worlk. Colossians 3:23 became a guiding principle: "Work with all your heart, as working for the Lord." That principle helped shape Spike from the beginning and continues to influence the company's culture today.

From the beginning, Cole believed Spike belonged to God. The company was not meant to be about personal credit or recognition, but about faithful stewardship. Spike's growth, opportunities, and success were viewed as blessings from God, and the purpose of the company was to serve others, help people grow, strengthen families, and reflect God's glory through honest work and excellence. Spike was also opportunity-centered from day one. The company began by creating a place where people ready to work, grow, and take responsibility could build a better future. That commitment remains part of Spike's core today.
Jason, one of Spike's earliest team members and employee #2, reflects that early culture of opportunity and loyalty. He remains with the company today as Spike's longest-tenured employee. Spike grew from humble beginnings into an industrial electrical manufacturer through long hours, sacrifice, customer trust, and God's provision. In 2016, Robert Hodson and Francisco Gomez joined the business, helping expand the company's leadership and growth. In 2017, Terry Macaulay joined as CFO and owner, bringing financial leadership and structure as the company continued to mature.
Spike started in industrial controls and low-voltage equipment, but soon expanded into motor control, hazardous location manufacturing, and medium-voltage switchgear. Major milestones included becoming the first U.S. company selected for Eaton's Crouse-Hinds certified assembly partner program and later becoming ABB's first value-add partner in North America for medium-voltage switchgear.
Alongside its manufacturing growth, Spike developed a people-centered mission focused on helping individuals grow through work, accountability, mentorship, and opportunity. The company's voluntary Bible study and Christian principles helped shape its culture of stewardship, servant leadership, and service.
Today, Spike is more than an electrical manufacturer. It is a company built on faith, innovation, automation, and world-class engineering, with a mission to develop people, serve customers, strengthen American industry, and help bring electrical manufacturing back to the United States.
Where We Grew.
What We Learned to Build.
A Conviction Becomes a Company
At Cole's home, a sticky note with Colossians 3:23 set the standard: work with all your heart. The first order moved Spike into a small boat-storage unit in Dickinson.
Start with the Work Customers Need Now
Low-voltage controls, hazardous-location assemblies, switchracks, skids and motor control.
More Room. More Responsibility.
Spike moved into its first true industrial shop and began turning startup hustle into a documented manufacturing process.
UL 508A Industrial Control Panels
A formal panel-shop capability gave customers third-party product-safety confidence and a repeatable path for custom controls.
Different Strengths. One Direction.
Francisco Gomez and Robert Hodson joined Spike in 2016. Francisco—a longtime friend who had encouraged Cole from the beginning—helped strengthen customer relationships and the people-first culture. Robert brought focused sales and distribution leadership. In 2017, Terry Macaulay joined as CFO, adding the financial structure and accountability needed for growth. Beginning that year, Robert and Francisco’s distribution efforts helped Spike grow revenue approximately 30%–50% year over year.
Fabrication, Automation and Hazardous-Location Depth.
In-house fabrication and controls expanded while Spike added UL certification for industrial control panels serving classified locations.
The Product Platform Gets Bigger
Spike moved beyond individual controls into larger, engineered power-distribution assemblies—built, wired and tested as complete systems.
LV Switchboards, MCCs and Integrated Power Assemblies.
UL 891 switchboard certification in 2019 marked a clear step from fabricator and integrator toward a full electrical-equipment manufacturer.
Discipline Creates a New Ceiling
Quality systems, partner training and a broader manufacturing scope prepared Spike to serve more complex projects and global hazardous-location requirements.
ISO 9001 Systems, Eaton CAP and MV Switchgear.
Spike established its ISO 9001:2015 quality system and became an Eaton Crouse-Hinds Certified Assembly Partner for the U.S. and Canada, while launching into medium-voltage switchgear.
Robert Expands Spike's Reach
Robert led the sales and distribution expansion that brought Spike to customers in 47 U.S. states and Canada. Francisco’s customer relationships and the work of Spike’s engineering, operations, quality and manufacturing teams supported that reach—helping transform a regional manufacturer into a North American supplier.
ABB Technology, Spike Electric. One Market Offering.
The relationship expanded into medium-voltage integration, dual branding and joint development for demanding industrial applications.
Speed Becomes a Tactical Advantage
he company’s ability to combine collaboration, engineering and execution was recognized by ABB at its eOEM Summit.
Excellence in Collaboration & Speed in Innovations
The recognition reinforced Spike’s market position: not simply faster delivery, but faster engineering and product development.
The Platform is Tested at Full Scale
Spike and ABB accelerated a new arc-resistant platform from engineering through laboratory testing and commercial production.
63 kA TYPE 2B. KEMA Tested. 38 kV. UL 1558.
PowerSafe 15 kV arc-resistant switchgear passed Type 2B testing at KEMA; Spike also advanced UL 1558 low-voltage switchgear and its 38 kV PowerClad platform.
Seven Locations. One Team.
Spike expands across seven locations while keeping the same operating idea: build with urgency, serve with integrity and create opportunity for people.
A Broader LV & MV Portfolio
Controls, hazardous-location equipment, switchboards, switchgear, transfer systems and engineered power assemblies now sit within one manufacturing platform.
The Smart Factory Comes Online
The next phase is designed to multiply what made Spike successful—people, engineering, speed and disciplined manufacturing.
Automation witb a Purpose
A connected manufacturing system built to improve quality, repeatability, lead time and the capacity to bring more electrical manufacturing back to America.
